Great Falls Park is a small National Park Service (NPS) site in Virginia, United States. Situated on 800 acres (3.2 km2) along the banks of the Potomac River in northern Fairfax County, the park is a disconnected but integral part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. The Great Falls of the Potomac River are near the northern boundary of the park, as are the remains of the Patowmack Canal, the first canal in the United States that used locks to raise and lower boats.
The views of the waterfall(s) from the overlooks are breathtaking. Amazing experience. Pictures don't do it justice. We also hiked the trails and found some ruins as well as a super peaceful spot further down the river where the water was calm and the view was beautiful. You cannot swim! While we were hiking a deer crossed the path just feet from us, it was neat!
Absolutely beautiful place. It is a national park, so you need a pass to enter. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary. He comes here all the time, yet, I have never been here. It's absolutely beautiful. Make sure to wear hiking boots, if you'd like to climb up or down the rocks or even for rock hoping.
The park is incredible, there are lot of hiking trails and hidden beaches. Great place for a walk in nature. The scenery is beautiful and it's a great place to walk pets, go for a bike ride, or take a family walk. It can be dangerous as all edges do not have rails, and some paths are for experienced hikers, but it is fun nonetheless. You can easily walk around for hours and not end up in the same place twice.
We always find a new hidden corner each time we go. What a beautiful place so close to home. Make sure to go see all the overlooks and get close to the water area in designated places. Buying a yearly pass is also only $35! So worth it.
One of the best places to go to for hiking, biking, walking, hanging out and nature watching. Very fun and peaceful. Ready access and close by to the city. Weekend are super busy but you can see many kayaks coming down the falls. Must see...
Very beautiful falls, it only takes 10 minutes to walk from parking lot to falls. Make sure you are going to check all the spots for overlook(more walking distance)Different spots, are showing different angles of view and it absolutely worth it. There are also small hiking trails and picnic area. We arrive after 5, and admission was free. But before we did pay, so I don’t know how it works. Been here twice 🥰
Just wow, it looks so beautiful, lovely and cool including a lovely picnic area! The water fall looks amazing and the sound of water while moving so fast made me feel like there is no tension in this world! Worth to visit again and again. Just love it!
Definitely recommend a visit to this park, esp. If u love trekking with family nd friends. Weather was a tad hot, wish I had visited on a slightly less humid day. The entry is 20usd per car and is valid for a week if u feel like visiting another day.
