WOW!!! Incredible ! BEAUTIFUL! AMAZING! Worth the trip!! Worth the money!!! Let me tell you most people say there are only two ways to get here by the ferry or by seaplane.. we chose the 3rd... a private chartered company. The man we rented a boat from on Air BnB owned a company that chartered day excursions here and it was the best money we ever spent ! It took two and half hours to get there and Fort Jefferson is full of information and history. You can snorkel and view amazing coral reefs. They have a store on site to purchase souvenirs and don't forget your National Park stamp for your book! We hopped on over to Loggerhead Key Lighthouse and that was just as amazing! They do offer camping here as well. Bathrooms are locked while the ferry is docked but you can use the ones on the ferry no matter how you got there and purchase drinks and food from the ferry. Masks are required on the ferry. I will never forget our time here.
This is a great day trip. Make sure and pay for parking in one of several parking lots or parking garages. Apparently the tow companies are ruthless. The ferry out was clean and nice, the island and the fort was really fun to explore. Good informative guided tour, snorkeling was nice to cool off in the water, although the snorkeling was not world class. You can camp overnight, although there are no facilities on the island. The ferry provides a snack breakfast, and a nice sack lunch. Fresh water showers on the back of the boat for after you snorkel was very nice. It is a pricey day trip especially with parking costs but it is a nice day trip.
If you can handle the long ferry ride from Key West, Florida, I highly recommend going on an adventure to the Dry Tortugas National Park!!! Absolutely an awesome fort with history attached to it. Feel free to explore the whole island as you wish. We opted with this option and enjoyed it completely.
Do not miss this when you are in Key West! Absolutely amazing national park and the beauty of this place is breathtaking. I am planning on coming back again with my wife and camping here. Amazing amazing amazing!
So glad we took a day out of our Key West visit to come here!! We took the ferry, next time we will get there by sea plane. Breathtaking colors!! Beautiful water!! Massive endeavor!! Will never forget our visit here!!
Absolutely a must-see on a trip to Key West. It's a bit pricey but definitely worth the splurge one time. We took the Yankee Freedom ferry and it was an all day trip and a great experience.
I didn't even know this was a national park until my friend found out I was in Key West and suggested it. Luckily there were still seats for the next day's boat. It took us a couple hours to get to the park, but the trip was fun because I saw a lot of fishes and sea turtles. And the park itself was amazing. But remember to bring snorkeling equipment with you. And please use ocean friendly sun lotion to protect the ecosystem.
This was a great trip. The ride out to the island is over an hour but it is so beautiful!! Fort Jefferson was really interesting and had a lot of preserved historical items that gave descriptions and the history of the fort. At the time when I visited you were also able to snorkel around the Island.
